UK Unveils New Digital Visa System for Moroccan Citizens

On May 27, 2025, the United Kingdom’s Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Chief, Mark Owen, officially announced the implementation of a fully digital visa application system specifically aimed at simplifying the process for Moroccan nationals. The system, part of a wider digital transformation strategy, promises faster decisions, fewer in-person requirements, and a more accessible user experience.

Only One Physical Visit Required

One of the most significant improvements is that Moroccan applicants will now only need to visit the visa application center once, eliminating the need for multiple appointments and follow-ups. This development is particularly beneficial for those living in remote or rural areas.

Fully Online Submission and Tracking

The new system allows applicants to upload all supporting documents online and track the status of their application in real time through a secure portal. This reduces the need for paperwork, shortens wait times, and increases transparency in the decision-making process.

“This is about removing barriers and making the visa process smoother and more modern,” said UKVI Director Mark Owen.
“We’re bringing our services closer to the applicant, digitally.”

Faster Turnaround Times and Improved User Experience

With automation and centralized digital workflows, the UKVI aims to significantly reduce visa processing times. The system will apply to tourist, work, student, and family visit visas, among others. According to UK officials, this initiative aligns with the UK’s broader strategy to enhance global mobility and travel convenience.

Strengthening UK-Morocco Bilateral Relations

Beyond technical upgrades, this move is a strong diplomatic gesture. By easing travel restrictions for Moroccan citizens, the UK signals a commitment to deeper economic and cultural ties with Morocco. UKVI officials highlighted that the new system supports efforts to boost tourism, education exchange, and business cooperation between the two nations.

Launch Timeline Still Pending

Although no specific launch date has been confirmed, UKVI has stated that the digital system will go live soon, and internal testing is already underway.
